Product Description
The WHEATSTONE Air Cooled Elextric Motors.Air-cooled explosion-proof servo motors are explosion-proof motors that rely on airflow for heat dissipation. They are primarily used in hazardous locations—such as the petroleum, chemical, and coal mining industries—where flammable and explosive gases are present. The key difference between these motors and water-cooled designs is that they utilize forced air cooling to avoid the risk of short circuits or corrosion caused by coolant leaks.
Heat Dissipation: Independent Air Cooling, No Performance Degradation at Low Speeds
This is the core advantage that sets it apart from ordinary explosion-proof servo motors. In standard self-ventilated motors, airflow decreases as speed drops, making them prone to overheating under low-speed, high-torque operating conditions. In contrast, explosion-proof servo motors typically employ IC416 independent forced air cooling, where the fan is driven by a separate power source, ensuring constant airflow unaffected by motor speed. This guarantees effective heat dissipation even at zero speed or under heavy loads at low speeds, reducing surface temperatures by 15–25°C compared to standard solutions.
Safety: Multi-factor Authentication, Suitable for Hazardous Areas
Safety is the top priority for explosion-proof motors. Mainstream products generally hold dual explosion-proof certifications from ATEX (EU) and IECEx (International). They are designed to operate safely in hazardous locations where flammable gases or dust are present (such as Zone 2 and Zone 22), and their explosion-proof enclosures are capable of withstanding potential internal explosions without igniting the external environment.
Performance: High Dynamic Response and High Overload Capacity
It retains the inherent high dynamic performance and high precision of servo motors. It features excellent acceleration and deceleration capabilities, with peak torque reaching more than three times the rated torque, enabling it to easily handle heavy-load startup shocks. When paired with a high-resolution encoder (such as a 23-bit absolute encoder), it can achieve micron-level positioning accuracy.
Environmental Adaptability: Compact, Rugged, and Maintenance-Free
To withstand harsh operating conditions, it typically features high power density, a compact and rugged design, and an IP rating of IP65 or higher (such as IP67 connectors). With its maintenance-free design, it operates reliably at ambient temperatures ranging from 40°C to 60°C, as well as in humid and dusty environments.

Application Industry
Hazardous environments + high temperatures/heavy loads/continuous operation. When natural cooling isn’t enough, that’s when its value really shines through.
Main Use Cases
Petrochemicals and Natural Gas
This is the most typical application scenario. Examples include reactor agitation, valve control in oil refining units, and steering wheels for explosion-proof AGVs. These environments often contain flammable gases (such as xylene and hydrogen) and require equipment to operate continuously and reliably in Zones 1 and 2. Air-cooled solutions ensure that the motors do not derate due to overheating during low-speed agitation or high-precision valve positioning.
Underground Coal Mines
With limited space and complex ventilation conditions underground, heavy-duty equipment such as scraper conveyors and air damper drives requires high torque and explosion-proof capabilities. Air-cooled explosion-proof servo motors maintain stable heat dissipation under low-speed, heavy-load conditions; replacing hydraulic systems also eliminates the risk of oil leakage and contamination.
Rubber Internal Mixing and Tire Manufacturing
The ambient temperature in internal mixing workshops consistently exceeds 40°C year-round, and the environment is filled with carbon black dust that can coat the motor’s heat sinks, making natural cooling highly prone to failure. The air-cooling solution maintains the S1 continuous duty cycle and prevents frequent derating due to overheating during the summer.
Lithium-Ion Batteries and New Energy
Ambient temperatures in lithium-ion battery drying oven areas can exceed 120°C, imposing extremely demanding heat dissipation requirements that typically necessitate air cooling or even combined thermal insulation solutions.
Areas Surrounding High-Temperature Kilns for Glass, Ceramics, and Other Materials
Ambient temperatures near glass melting furnaces can reach 60–200°C, compounded by radiant heat. Standard motors simply cannot operate in such close proximity, making forced air cooling essential to maintain operation.
Other Industrial Sectors
In locations with explosive atmospheres—such as pharmaceutical, packaging, printing, and spray painting facilities—explosion-proof servo motors with forced air cooling are also used, primarily valued for their compact, rugged design and high dynamic response.
