Product Description
The WHEATSTONE UnderWater Motors. The key characteristics of dry-sealed submersible motors can be summarised as follows: the internal chamber is filled with air; their design is most similar to that of standard land-based motors; and they operate underwater by means of a reliable mechanical seal. Their greatest advantages are their simple design and relatively low cost; however, the reliability of the seal is a decisive factor in their service life, and they are relatively sensitive to the quality of the operating water.
The internal cavity is filled with air: this is its most fundamental characteristic. The motor is filled with neither oil nor water, and its operating environment is essentially the same as that of a standard motor; consequently, its structural design and manufacture are relatively straightforward.
Reliance on high-performance seals: As the interior is filled with air, preventing the ingress of external water is central to the design. This is primarily achieved by installing high-performance mechanical seals at key points where the motor shaft protrudes to provide dynamic sealing. Some models also feature an air chamber at the base of the motor, which utilises the compressed air generated when water enters to form an ‘air cushion’ that assists the seal, thereby providing dual protection.
